CRHISS Housing Programs
We are a “small” Non Profit that started in 1994 as a coffee group and have grown considerably since then. We opened our first Housing Program, a transitional one, in the fall of 2011. Since then we have seen over 25 clients go through the Transitional Housing Program and work towards becoming independent in the community. We purchased the Tyee Apartments in 2014, as our waiting lists were phenomenally long and we saw another gap in long-term housing. As we continued to meet the needs of our clients and with our wait list growing and we started building our newest housing project, “Linda’s Place” at 531 9th ave. Alongside the housing programs we also provide daily programming, one on one advocacy services and brain injury specific courses for clients and caregivers. We have a client base of over 350, stretching from Campbell River to the north end of the island and the surrounding islands. We strive to make our services as accessible as possible to all those affected by Brain Injury, and hope to be able to provide much needed services at this end of the island.

Hillcrest House
Hillcrest house is our Transitional Housing Program. With 2 Bachelor suites up top and office with programming space below. Clients who go through this program have access to staff supports. When you enter the program you have up to 3 years to stay while working towards a set of goals you create with staff, to become independent within the community.
Each apartment consists of a bachelor style space, with kitchen and bathroom. A few of our units do have stoves and a few are for clients who rely on staff for cooking needs.
Each client is assessed and a specific program is then created for them. There is a 3 year max stay with us and our goal is to have our clients re-housed and living independently. We work with everyone on a case to case basis to get them back on track and independent within the community.
Some of the services our staff offer to clients in the Independence Housing Program are:
- GP attendance/tracking
- Medication tracking
- Cooking - one on one or cooking provided
- Financical management assistance
- Socialization skills
This program has 2 different streams of funding, one through us, CRHISS, and one through Island Health Brain Injury Program. Each require a different application process, to ask us how you can meet the criteria contact CRHISS or Island Health Brain Injury Program.

Tyee Apartments
Tyee Apartments is our Long Term Housing Program. It is an integrated Housing Program, we are striving for a 50/50 split of clients and market renters. This program is completely independent and we strive to make it as safe and affordable for our clients, with understanding landlords for all of the struggles that come along with Brain Injury.
These apartments, while are designed as a split of market renters and clients, also house a lot of vulnerable individuals and children. For this reason there are set of criteria one must meet to be suitable for this housing. We strive to ensure all of our tenants are safe & that the apartment works as a community. If you are interested in housing, please contact the office to book a Housing Intake.

Linda’s Place
Linda's Place is our newest building - which opened in 2020. This housing program will also provide long-term, integrated housing with a 50/50 spilt of clients and market renters. The housing will be a mix of Bachelor suites, 1 bedrooms, 2 bedrooms and 3 bedroom apartments, with 2 Wheelchair accessible suites.
Linda's Place also has 2 Transitional Housing Units where Brain Injury clients have access to staff supports.
Linda’s Place will differ from Tyee Apartments in that it will have office and a locum space on the ground floor. With this space, we will be able to provide our clients with Brain Injury specific medical services only available in Victoria and Vancouver currently. Please see the section New Build - Linda's Place for more info and photos of the build!
